NCAT Women’s Basketball: A History of Division Success
The North Carolina A&T Women’s Basketball team has a long and successful history of playing in NCAA Division I. The Aggies have been competing in the mid-major conference since 1982 and have since become one of the most consistent and successful programs in the country. From their time as members of the MEAC to their current role in the Big South, the Aggies have consistently competed at the highest level of college basketball and have been a consistent contender for conference championships and NCAA tournament berths.
The Early Years
NCAT women’s basketball began in 1982 as part of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). During the early years, the Aggies had success on the court, winning the MEAC tournament in 1988 and earning a bid to the NCAA tournament. They would go on to have a successful run in the tournament, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in 1990 and making two more appearances in the NCAA tournament in 1994 and 1996.
The Mid-2000s
In the mid-2000s, the Aggies began to struggle, failing to make the NCAA tournament in the 2000s. Despite their struggles, the Aggies continued to compete in the MEAC, winning the conference tournament in 2005 and 2006 and finishing as MEAC regular season champions in 2008.
The Move to the Big South
In 2010, NCAT women’s basketball made the move to the Big South Conference, joining a group of schools from the Carolinas, Georgia, and Virginia. The Aggies quickly established themselves as one of the top teams in the conference, winning the Big South regular season championship in 2011 and 2013, and the Big South tournament championship in 2012 and 2014.
Recent Success
Since joining the Big South, the Aggies have been one of the most consistent and successful teams in the conference. In the last five seasons, the Aggies have won four consecutive Big South regular season championships and have been the runner-up in the Big South tournament four times. The Aggies have also earned two invitations to the NCAA tournament in 2015 and 2017, where they advanced to the second round in each appearance.
NCAT Women’s Basketball in the NCAA Division I
With the move to the Big South, NCAT women’s basketball is currently competing in NCAA Division I. The Aggies have been one of the most consistent teams in the division, earning four regular season championships and four tournament championships since joining the conference. The Aggies have also earned two NCAA tournament berths in the last five seasons, and have advanced to the second round in both appearances.
NCAT Women’s Basketball Players
NCAT women’s basketball has produced some of the best players in the country. The Aggies have had multiple All-American players, including forward Daisa Harris, who was named the 2019 Big South Player of the Year, guard Shaniya Jones, who was named the 2018 Big South Player of the Year, and center Zhaquanda Robinson, who was named the 2017 Big South Player of the Year.
NCAT Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff
The NCAT women’s basketball program is led by head coach Tarrell Robinson, who is in his ninth season with the Aggies. During his tenure, Robinson has been named the Big South Coach of the Year twice, in 2011 and 2017. He has also led the Aggies to four regular season championships and four tournament championships in the Big South.
NCAT Women’s Basketball Facilities
NCAT women’s basketball plays its home games at the Corbett Sports Center, an 8,500-seat arena located on the campus of North Carolina A&T. The arena is home to all of the Aggies’ home games, and has hosted numerous conference and NCAA tournament games. The arena also features a state-of-the-art scoreboard and sound system, as well as a jumbotron and seating for up to 10,000 fans.

The Aggies have consistently had one of the highest attendance figures in the Big South, with fans packing the Corbett Sports Center for home games.
